Use case · Obsidian

Apple Podcasts to Obsidian straight as Markdown.

Send Apple Podcasts transcripts to Obsidian as properly-formatted Markdown — speaker-labeled, timestamped, ready for [[wikilinks]] and your existing tag system. No 200-word Apple copy limit. No Sonoma-only Mac trick. Just a folder of .md files you drop into your vault.

Free · 2 episodes/day, up to 45 minutes each.

Speaker-labeled podcast transcript exported as Markdown for an Obsidian vault.

How it works

  1. 01

Subscribe a show or transcribe single episodes

Paste the Apple Podcasts URL into podscribie. Follow the show to auto-transcribe new episodes, or pick individual ones from the show page.

  2. 02

    Bulk-export as Markdown

From your Library, select episodes → Export. You get a .zip with one .md file per episode. Each file includes YAML frontmatter (title, show, date, duration, tags) so Obsidian's Properties panel works automatically.

  3. 03

    Drop into your vault

Unzip into a Podcasts/ folder inside your vault. Obsidian indexes them instantly. Use Dataview to query by show, date, or speaker. Use [[wikilinks]] to connect quotes to your project notes.

What you get

  • YAML frontmatter so Obsidian Properties just work
  • Episode metadata (show, date, duration, tags) pre-filled
  • Speaker labels survive — “Naval:”, not “Speaker 1:”
  • Inline timestamps for citing back to specific moments
  • Compatible with Dataview, Templater, and the Tag pane
  • Works on iOS Obsidian via iCloud sync — no Mac required

Frequently asked

What does the YAML frontmatter look like?+

Each transcript file starts with a fenced YAML block: title, show, author, episode_url, published_date, duration_min, and tags (auto-generated from the AI summary's topic list). Obsidian's Properties panel reads these directly.

Can I template the export format?+

Studio plan customers can configure a Markdown template — frontmatter fields, paragraph format, timestamp style — once per workspace. Free/Pro use the default which most Obsidian users find solid.

Will Dataview pick up my podcast transcripts?+

Yes. Each file's frontmatter (`show`, `published_date`, `duration_min`, `tags`) is queryable by Dataview. Common pattern: TABLE show, duration_min FROM "Podcasts" WHERE published_date >= date(today) - dur(7 days).

How do I copy from Apple Podcasts directly without this?+

Apple's built-in transcript copy is iPhone-only and caps at ~200 words per selection. To copy a 90-minute episode you'd manually select 150+ times. There's a Sonoma-era Mac trick reading the local cache file, but it broke after macOS 14.4 and only worked for episodes you'd already played.

What about Spotify-only podcasts?+

Most shows on Spotify also publish RSS — paste the RSS or Apple Podcasts link and we'll resolve it. True Spotify-exclusives can't be transcribed because Spotify doesn't expose audio publicly.
